Method

Black velvet cloth

Puffy medium(easily available in market)

Design

Brush

Fabric paint (pearl colors)

White carbon paper

Using a white carbon paper, trace the design onto the velvet cloth.

Paint the complete design with puffy medium as a base Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Now choose your colors and paint the design. Keep inner outlines as a gap.

Always paint the lighter shades first then the darker ones.

Then iron the back side of the design. The ironing should be done only after 24 hrs.

Madhubani Painting

Madhubani is a style of traditional folk painting from the villages around the area of Madhubani and Mithila in northern Bihar, India. Madhubani paintings were originally wall murals but are now found on paper, cloth and canvas as well. The main subjects of Madhubani paintings contain images of Hindu deities such as Krishna, Ram, Shiva, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. You can also find the paintings of sun, moon, fish, animals, plants and flowers.

Colors used are usually red, orange, yellow, blue, green and brown. The colors are natural which are extracted from plants. Each fragment would usually be heavily outlined using black dye. Madhubani painting usually has heavy borders.

It is a very simple art form of painting. You Don’t need any specialized knowledge but just a creative mind and patience. So try it ….

Things You'll Need

Handmade Paper (If you can't find handmade paper, you can use any kind of paper suitable for painting.)

Tracing paper

Carbon paper

Poster Colors

Black marker

Method

1. Draw your picture onto the tracing paper. Now use your sheet of carbon paper to trace your picture onto handmade paper. You should now have the outline of your design on your paper.

2. Paint in your colors. Madhubani art usually uses flat colors with no shading. There is normally a double line drawn for the outlines, with the gap between the lines filled by cross or straight tiny lines. In the linear painting, no colors are applied. Only the outlines are drawn. Let dry completely before moving on to the next step.

3. Use your black marker to draw outlines.

4. Add a colorful border.
